Judge tells Saddam's defense to wrap up case...

Well my freaky darlings...

I think it is about time the judge got a sense for how long this is dragging out. Keep in mind that this will probably be the first of many cases Saddam will be tried for. Although I suspect that this case will be the longest trial.

If someone or the whole group of seven has been found guilty then the rest of the cases will go much faster I suspect.

WORLD CUP 2006

Well, the World Cup starts today and the action for the worlds soccer fans is going to be intense. To follow the games, I've added a couple links at the right. One takes you to the FIFA site and the other to ESPN Soccernet s World Cup section.
Also, for those in the States who have no idea what this is all about and, like me, are done with the NBA Finals, here is a link to an excellent article by CBS Sports writer Larry Dobrow. Here's *snip*:

Will I get the chance to chant "U-S-A! U-S-A!" and generally give patriotism a bad name? Sure! Antisocial behavior is as much a part of international soccer as is snooty disdain for anything red, white and blue. While one of the aforementioned funny-accent people told me that the English soccer hooligan is but a "mythical evil creature," you can expect to see more than a few dentally challenged wackjobs cavorting in post-game riot footage. Others who get high marks for low behavior include the Dutch ("mean and clever") and the Italians ("they add an almost neo-fascist element").

There, now I have provided you with everything you need to enjoy World Cup 2006 except the beer.

Fiat justitia et ruat caelum

And Fall The Heavens did on the head of Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi. The most wanted terrorist in Iraq, was killed yesterday, by two 500-pound bombs, in United States air strikes 30 miles from Baghdad, near Baqouba. After months of careful tracking, planning and failure, Two F-16 fighter/bombers finally put an end to the terrorist leaders reign of terror in Iraq.
It is suspected that Al-Zarqawi was the hooded man who beheaded Nick Berg and Eugene Armstrong, and claimed responsibility for the triple attacks in Jordanian hotels last November.

Update

All, it seems, is not right with the world, today. The Spurs are out, and so are the Suns. Dallas knocked them both out in 7 and now faces Miami in the NBA Finals on Thursday night. On the up-side, the World Cup starts this Friday and I will try and catch as many of those games as I can, because, for me, at least, the Finals over with.
Speaking of the World Cup, this year to be held in Germany, there has been great controversy over the Iranian presidents proposed visit the games if his team makes it into the second round. A good part of this up-roar stems from comments he made denying the Holocaust and threatening to wipe Israel off of the map. Now, the words of madmen and lunatics frequently make for good news sound bites, but when this one tried to defend his insane statements to a leading German language magazine, he sounded even crazier than usual. Here's one example:

Ahmadinejad: Look here, my views are quite clear. We are saying that if the Holocaust occurred, then Europe must draw the consequences and that it is not Palestine that should pay the price for it. If it did not occur, then the Jews have to go back to where they came from. I believe that the German people today are also prisoners of the Holocaust.

What's more, it seems that Iran has started blocking access to several websites and blogs on the ‘Net, further fueling rumors that the government there is preparing for military actions against them. Iran has repeatedly stated that they will continue to push their nuclear agenda despite protests from several nations concerned with Iran’s nuclear ambitions
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is threatening fuel shipments to the West over this and I don’t understand how they think this makes them look any better. Besides that, once they threaten our oil then they are really going to get grabbed by the nose and kicked in the ass.
This comes in response to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s statements that Iran must respond within weeks.
No, all is not right.
But someone is trying to do something about it, it seems, because tomorrow is June 6, 2006, 666, and crazy Dutch Christians are holding round the clock prayer vigils to ward off evil. But no, we’re not looking at the start of the Apocalypse. Chances are we’re right smack in the thick of it, already. Just for fun though, here’s a 666 website maintained by Rev. Felix Just, S.J., a professor of theology at the University of San Francisco

SPURS WIN 91-86, FORCE GAME 7

In an amazing comeback the San Antonio Spurs have won back to back games to tie their series against the Dallas Mavericks 3-3. Game 6 saw the Silver and Black coming up from an uneventful first 3 quarters to dominate the 4th, silencing an exuberant American Airlines Center crowd, and closing out with a 91-86 win.
They bring it back to San Antonio on Monday night to end the series.
In San Antonio, today, there is a pallid sense of optimism about Monday night’s game. No one seems quite willing to commit to a win, and yet, all seem to expect one.
“Of course, they’re going to win,” said one. “They’re the Spurs. They always bring us to the edge but they always pull it off.”
Others were not so expectant. “It’s going to be a hard win. Dallas hates us,” said another. “It’s that Avery Johnson and Mark Cuban. They want to beat us, big time.”
Indeed, there has blown up around this series an ill wind, a quiet curtain of animosity, a thing not unlike the bad blood that drew gunslingers out onto the dusty streets to gun each other down.
Everything started out so friendly, too. Well, except for Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. He’s hardly ever friendly when it comes to San Antonio. Before game 6 he was quoted as saying that they would kick the Spurs back to that "muddy-watered thing they call a Riverwalk." He wants a rivalry and he doesn’t care what he has to do to get it.
Add to this head coach Avery Johnson’s history with the Spurs. He was on the 1999 Championship team. Back then the Spurs were still led by “The Admiral” David Robinson, and winning that title was all about him. When Robinson retired the following year, A.J. (“The Little General”, we called him, since he was “co-captain” of the team) continued in his capacity as on the court coach.
This didn’t sit well with many of the new faces on the bench, particularly Malik Rose and Tim Duncan. It was reported that Avery Johnson got his bell rung by Malik Rose in a post game locker room brawl, and that the team sided against A.J. This led to sour grapes on his part, and ultimately led the club to cut him. A.J. made reference to having been “cut on Christmas eve” in his Q&A after game 6 when asked if he was afraid of playing game 7 in San Antonio. He also revealed that he traveled with a bodyguard, leading one to believe that he is, indeed, afraid of playing in San Antonio, and it’s starting to show.
He’s lost his cool. After being awarded the NBA’s Coach of the Year Award A.J has been riding high on a wave of his own ego. With a heavy dose of “Short Mans Complex” he’s ridden his team straight into a Waterloo in San Antonio. Now, he’s got to face his mentor, Gregg Popovich, on the Masters terms, and he’s going to crack.
Dallas has been playing dirty since the start of the series and Jason Terry’s suspension for punching Michael Finley in game 5 is just one of the many signs that Dallas is cracking up, from the Coach on down. That punch was an act of desperation, the act of a team lacking in sportsmanship, leadership, and Grit.
There’s an I-35 Shootout coming Monday night. The Mavericks boo-ed Michael Finley for having been traded to San Antonio and for having been part of the Terry suspension scandal but Terry better watch out when he walks into the AT&T center. We’re a mighty rowdy crowd and, woe-betide the Dallas Fans down here. For their information, we here in San Antonio think that they are all hat and no cattle, and Mark “the Mouth” Cuban and Avery “the little traitor” Johnson, and pugilistic Jason Terry can all take the walk of shame all the way back to Dallas, knowing that they were beaten by the better Team.

Spurs Squeak into Game 6

After a depressing loss in game 4 the San Antonio Spurs finally pull off a 98-97 win over Dallas. This has bolstered the spirit of Spurs fans, and extended the season just a little bit more, but now, the trick is to try and win the next two games in a row. Tonights game is in Dallas and, because of a post game suspension for Jason Terry for punching Michael Finley, the Spurs have a definite edge on them. With some effort to exploit that edge, the Spurs could push a game 7 back at home, increasing their chances to keep the season alive into the next round.
Go Spurs Go!
